Al-Anon & Nar-AnoN meetings in Florida
Support group meetings are a great way to get some extra support from someone who understands what it is like to love someone addicted to drugs or alcohol. There are several Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings located in the state of Florida. You will find that there are more Al-Anon meetings than Nar-Anon meetings.
Al-Anon is for people who know someone addicted to alcohol. Nar-Anon is for people who know someone addicted to drugs. These meetings are not for someone who has substance use issues. That would be AA or NA.
That being said you might not like Nar-Anon Meetings and might love Al-Anon Meetings. Or maybe the closest Nar-Anon meeting is too far for you to drive. Each meeting will be different. You need to find a meeting that works best for you.
Before Attending Al-Anon or Nar-Anon, Know That…
You can give as much or as little information about yourself as you want. Of course, the other members will be curious. But, in my experience, I found that they were respectful of my decision to share or not to share.
You might know someone else in the group, but remember it is an anonymous meeting. What is shared in the meeting needs to stay in the meeting.
Each meeting is going to be different. You might hate the first one you go to, but love the second, or you might not like any of the meetings at all. I recommend that my clients attend as many different meetings as possible to help them find a meeting that works best for them.
Meeting times and locations can change frequently, so please double check all information before attending. Please see their websites for more information.
Some people do not like in-person groups at all and prefer different types of support, that is okay. It is about finding what is best for you.
Getting the help you need
For some people, attending an Al-Anon or Nar-Anon meeting is just what they need, but some people prefer to talk privately with a counselor. And some people prefer to do both. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. It is about doing what is right for you. If you feel that you need additional support, please reach out.
