What are your office hours?

I see clients on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. However the majority of my hours are already reserved and my availability to take on new clients is very limited. If you are needing counseling sessions at a specific time I recommend that you contact me directly to ensure I have an opening that will fit your schedule.

Do you work with children?

No, I specialize in helping adults. But I know many great child counselors and would be happy to provide you a referral.

Do you work with couples/families?

I do not do “couples or marriage” counseling. I generally focus on helping individuals. That being said many of my individual clients do invite close family or friends in for a session or two to help with a specific problem. I also have many clients who have their loved ones come to counseling to help support them, hold their hand, etc, especially in the first few sessions when they might be nervous.

How many sessions and how long will it take for counseling to work?

Because I am a “get to the root of the problem” type of therapist I normally recommend that clients start with once a week counseling sessions and commit to that for at least four months before we talk about switching to every other week or once a month. I want my clients to be successful and I have found that when clients come once a week in the beginning they are much more successful towards their goals.

Here is a great article I recommend you read from The American Psychological Association that talks about some of the research behind treatment duration:

I don’t think I will like online counseling. Can I come to your office?

Yes, I offer in-person sessions at my office at The Grand Oaks Resort at 3000 Marion County Road Weirsdale, Florida 32195.

Does counseling online really work?

Yes! Many people prefer online counseling because they can stay in the comfort of their own home, which makes talking about some of those tough feelings easier. Besides that, many research studies show that online counseling is just as helpful as in-person counseling.

What are your fees?

  • $175 for 60 minute – standard session

  • $260 for 90 minutes - extended session

  • $700 for four hours - EMDR Intensive - Current clients only

Do you take my insurance?

No, I do not accept insurance. Some people do want to use their health insurance benefits. You are welcome to contact your health insurance provider and learn about their policies for Out of Network providers. In some instances, your health insurance will reimburse you for a portion of services. And I am happy to provide you a super-bill to file with them.

Why don’t you take insurance?

  1. For your session to be covered by your health insurance, I have to say that you have a mental health diagnosis. Even if you only need to talk or have questions, I have to give you a mental health diagnosis.

  2. Privacy - Your health insurance company will have access to your personal information. Someone who you and I have never met will legally have access to very personal details about what you are going through.

  3. Your health insurance company decides how many sessions and what type of therapy you can receive. Someone who you and I do not know will decide on your care, even if it is not the best decision for you.

How does counseling help?

Sometimes people just need an experienced outsider to help them tackle a problem. It is just like taking your car to a mechanic or calling an electrician. Sure, you might be able to fix the problem on your own, but calling a professional can help you pinpoint the problem and help save you a lot of time and headaches in the long run.

What type of counseling do you do?

I use a mix of different counseling techniques to customize your counseling sessions to what you need. My favorites are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems, and Person-Centered Therapy.

What about my privacy?

Your privacy is important to me. If you have any questions or concerns about privacy issues, please talk with me. You can read my privacy policies here.
